From November 6 to 8, 2024, under the sunny skies of the French Riviera, the SophiaTech campus at Université Côte d’Azur hosted the 7th edition of the IFIP International Conference on the Internet of Things (IoT). This flagship event brought together experts, researchers, students, and professionals to explore the latest advancements in the dynamic world of IoT.
Unprecedented workshops and a tutorial to kick-off the event
Prior to the two days of the conference, specialized workshops offered participants the opportunity to deepen their knowledge on key topics
STAND4IoT: Focused on IoT standards, featuring a presentation by Enrico Scarrone (Telecom Italia) on the use of digital twins and the standardization of data sharing.
GRAAL4IoT: Dedicated to the design, verification, and validation of IoT systems, with Valentina Casola (University of Naples Federico II) showcasing a SecDevOps approach for resilient IoT architectures.
Additionally, for the first time in the history of the conference, over 30 electronics and computer science students attended a tutorial presented by Mike Borowczak (University of Central Florida). The theme of this groundbreaking tutorial was: "Using Power to Uncover Secrets Within: A Hands-On Exploration of Cryptographic Implementations and Side-Channel Cryptanalysis."
A rich program and a “madness session”!
The conference featured three high-level keynote presentations
Erol Gelenbe (Polish Academy of Sciences and IFIP member) opened the conference with a presentation on the use of artificial intelligence to detect and mitigate cyberattacks.
Maryline Laurent (Télécom SudParis) followed with a talk on privacy in IoT, its evolution, and future expectations.
Bernard P. Zeigler (University of Arizona) concluded with an introduction to DEVS as a language for designing IoT systems
The “madness session” was particularly well-received: each presenter had three minutes to convince the audience to engage in more detailed discussions during the breaks.
These diverse formats for interaction and the wide range of topics covered greatly encouraged discussions and allowed the fifty participants to establish promising connections.
Off to Hyderabad 2025!
A heartfelt thank you to the organizers, speakers, sponsors, and participants who made the 2024 edition a true success.
We are already looking forward to reconnecting with the IoT community in India for the 2025 edition, which will be held in Hyderabad.
